Consider for a moment two or three PCVs you have met in this country and know fairly well. What stages are they in? Are they all in the same stage? What do you think accounts for any differences?

Reread Jan's "Dear Friends" letter at the beginning of this chapter. At various points in this letter, Jan describes certain behaviors or attitudes that clearly place her in one or the other of all six stages outlined above. In the exercise below, you are asked to match each stage with a paragraph from her letter:
